FinOps tools for your daily work.

finops tools

What is Finops?

Shorthand for Cloud Financial Management. FinOps has 3 Phases:

  • ๐Ÿ‘ Inform - Visibility & Allocation

The inform phase gives you the visibility for allocation and for creating shared accountability by showing teams what theyโ€™re spending and why. This phase enables individuals who can now see the impact of their actions on the bill.

  • โš™๏ธ Optimize - Utilization

The optimize phase empowers your teams to identify and measure efficiency optimizations, like rightsizing, storage access frequency, or improving RI coverage. Goals are set upon the identified optimizations, which align with each teamโ€™s area of focus.

  • ๐Ÿš€ Operate - Operate

The operate phase defines processes that make the goals of IT, finance, and business achievable. Automation can be deployed to enable these processes to be performed in a reliable and repeatable manner.

To best follow the FinOps lifecycle. Here is a list of productivity tools that will help you in all 3 Phases:

๐Ÿ”Ž Finala is an open-source resource cloud scanner that analyzes, discloses, presents, and notifies about wasteful and unused resources. With Finala you can achieve 2 main objectives: Cost saving & Unused resource detection.

๐Ÿ”Ž Automated Cloud Advisor - Is an extensible tool that aims at facilitating cost optimization in AWS, by collecting data for resources that are underutilized. Also, this is a great learning tool for new DevOps/Cloud engineers that want to start automating things in AWS.

โœ‰๏ธ Cost-reporter - A lambda which sends a daily cost and trend report to slack. It helps with one of the three FinOps phases: Inform. It can send you a report every day / only when cost increases / only when cost breached a threshold depending on your configuration.

๐Ÿ“Œ Infracost - Cloud cost estimates for Terraform in your CLI and pull requests.

๐Ÿ“Œ Terraform Cost Estimation - A tool that translates the terraform plan or tfstate into a cost estimation of your resources hourly and monthly.

๐Ÿ“Ÿ Serverless calculator - Calculating the cost for AWS Lambda, Azure Functions, Google Cloud Functions, and IBM OpenWhisk. Providing good comparison or prediction on how the cost can vary depending on the memory, execution time, and number of executions on different cloud providers.

๐Ÿ“Ÿ Cost Calucator - Estimate AWS costs when running serverless applications on AWS Lambda.

๐Ÿ“Ÿ Pricing Calculator - AWS Pricing Calculator lets you explore AWS services and create an estimate for the cost of your use cases on AWS.

๐Ÿ—‚ Concurrency aws pricing tools - A set of lambda functions that calculates a good approximation of what monthly charges WILL be for the supported services, in near-realtime, with a 10-minute delay. It consists of a Lambda function and a Python module that uses the AWS Price List API.

โš™๏ธ Optimize Lambda during CI CD with lumigo cli - a solution that allows you to better tailor your lambda functions to enhance either cost and/or performance.

โš™๏ธ aws-lambda-power-tuning is a state machine powered by AWS Step Functions that help you optimize your Lambda functions for cost and/or performance in a data-driven way.
๐Ÿ’ก There is also a UI version of it available - AWS Lambda Power Tuner UI.

๐ŸŽฏ Kubecost - Find an optimal set of nodes for a Kubernetes cluster.

๐ŸŽฏ GreenBot - is a tool that analyzes AWS infrastructure and finds ways to reduce cost.

AWS Instance Scheduler - a simple solution that allows you to create automatic start and stop schedules for your Amazon EC2 and Amazon RDS instances.

๐Ÿ•ต๐Ÿป AutoSpotting is a open-source spot market automation tool, optimized towards quick/easy/frictionless adoption of the EC2 spot market at any scale.

โš™๏ธ kube-spot-termination-notice-handler - A Kubernetes DaemonSet to run 1 container per node to periodically polls the EC2 Spot Instance Termination Notices endpoint. Once a termination notice is received, it will try to gracefully stop all the pods running on the Kubernetes node, up to 2 minutes before the EC2 Spot Instance backing the node is terminated.
